Veneers Cost in Australia: What You Actually Pay Per Tooth

Porcelain veneers run $1,800 to $2,700 per tooth in Australia. A ten-veneer smile line lands around $18,000 to $27,000. The number that matters is the one per tooth — because the tooth count is where two quotes for “a new smile” quietly diverge by fifteen thousand dollars.

We coordinate treatment in Vietnam, so we have an interest in one option mentioned near the end. The rest of this page is about getting a fair deal in Australia, which is what most people reading it will do.

What a veneer is, and what it is not

A veneer is a thin ceramic facing bonded to the front of a tooth. A crown covers the whole tooth. That distinction sounds academic until you read two quotes: a crown costs more, removes more tooth, and is used where the tooth is already damaged or root-treated.

Some treatment plans describe crowns as veneers. Ask which one is planned for each individual tooth, in writing. It is the single question that most often changes a quote.

What the price usually covers

  • The veneers themselves — usually pressed ceramic such as IPS e.max
  • Tooth preparation, where a thin layer of enamel is reduced
  • Impressions or a digital scan, and the lab work built from it
  • Bonding and final fitting

What is often quoted separately

  • The digital mock-up or wax-up used to preview the shape before you commit
  • Temporary veneers worn between preparation and fitting
  • Whitening of the teeth that will not be veneered, so the shades match
  • Gum contouring where the gum line is uneven
  • Treating decay or replacing old fillings under a tooth being veneered
  • A night guard, often recommended afterwards and priced separately

Whitening catches people out. Veneers do not change colour once made, so any natural tooth still on show is usually whitened first and matched to. If that is not in the quote, it arrives as an extra later — and it has to happen before the shade is chosen, not after.

How many teeth you actually need

Smile widely in a mirror. However many teeth show is your smile line, and that is the number the quote should cover. Six to eight upper teeth is common. Ten covers a broader smile. Twenty covers upper and lower, which is what most “full smile makeover” packages mean.

At Australian prices the difference between eight and twenty is more than twenty thousand dollars. No quote is comparable to another until both state the count.

Composite versus porcelain

Composite veneers are shaped directly onto the tooth in one visit and cost a few hundred dollars per tooth. They are the cheaper entry point, and they are reversible in a way porcelain is not.

They also stain, chip and dull sooner. Most are replaced within five to seven years. Over fifteen years the arithmetic often lands in the same place, so the real question is not which is cheaper but how long you want to leave it alone.

Six questions before you commit

  • How many teeth does this quote cover? A smile line can be six, eight, ten or twenty.
  • Which ceramic — pressed e.max, feldspathic, or a zirconia crown being called a veneer?
  • Is this a veneer or a crown? A crown covers the whole tooth and costs more.
  • How much enamel is being removed, and is the preparation reversible?
  • Do I see a mock-up before any tooth is touched?
  • What is the warranty, how long does it run, and what voids it?

The overseas option, stated plainly

Published price lists at Vietnamese clinics put E.max veneers at roughly 6 to 8 million dong per tooth — about $325 to $435 AUD at August 2026 rates. A ten-veneer smile line is therefore around $3,250 to $4,350 for treatment, before flights and accommodation. Chairside time is typically five to seven days, because unlike implants there is no months-long healing phase.

That gap is real, and it is not explained by cheaper ceramic — e.max is e.max. It is explained by rent, wages and insurance costing less. What it does not tell you is whether a particular clinic prepares teeth conservatively, uses the ceramic it names, or answers the phone if a veneer debonds after you fly home.

Ask the same six questions above of any overseas clinic, plus one more: who is clinically responsible once you are back in Australia. Get the warranty terms in writing before any deposit.
